“Listen to the Rain”
“No one likes the rain in real life, but everyone loves it in a song!” That’s what Don Kirshner (“The Man with the Golden Ear” – legendary publisher of 60s bubble-gum music in the NYC Brill Building) apparently had to say about the subject…
And it’s true that there are many songs celebrating the rain because its powerful image talks and touches everyone. See for example “Red Rain”, one of my favorite Peter Gabriel song – and this song here reminded me of it in its deceptive simplicity and melodic affect.
Recording again this song, which was a bonus on their celebrated EP “Complex Redux”, here with a much more polished sound and better performances, Komplex 2, the duo from Portland, Maine, delivers a compelling ballad with a great melodic vein and a catchy chorus that is bound to stay in your head long after you heard it.
Assisted here by Bob Cameron on guitars and Rob Stokes on Drums, Tony Clark and Mike Derrick prove once again their musical strength and how they are “Holding on to what I am” on this single that warrants more than a casual listen.
Give it a try, you won’t regret it!
Verdict: 5/5 beards
