Raspin Stuwart 'NY2LA'
NY2LA the new CD from LA based artist extraordinaire, Raspin Stuwart is all class from start to finish. From the opening bluesy notes of Down Low to the cool fade out of Smoke the Hookah Stuwart takes us on a marvellous journey of the soul. His music goes soulful to sensual via fun and playful and we get the pleasure of joining him.
The entire album is polished and while each song is able to stand alone on its own merit, brought together as a package they melt together and become one superb listening experience. Stuwart’s upbringing in blues-soaked Chicago and his many years living in stylish and exciting LA very much inform his sound. However, while you can hear the influences of those who came before him, he has a style that is very much his own, criss-crossing and blurring the lines between genres.
It’s difficult to pick a favourite from the album. Fans will already be familiar with hits like Reelin’ and King of Foolz. Amongst the new some of the standouts are the title track NY2LA, the deeply earthy, bluesy Mama’s Got the Blues and the incredibly beautiful Lovin’ You.
For current fans of Raspin Stuwart this album will confirm what a talent he is, and for new comers to his music you are in for an introduction to a musician who will keep you wanting more.
Highly recommended this album is only available for purchase from the artist’s webpage www.raspin.com.
I strongly encourage everyone to grab their copy, and get one for all your friends while you’re at it.
Jacqueline gives a huge 5 out of 5 Beards
