Modern Americana talent, Paula Standing, is just released her latest EP, Truth and Trickery to all major digital platforms today, 26th April 2019.
This six track collection shines a light on the modern phenomenon of fake news. Aptly named Truth and Trickery comprises a set of songs which tell both personal and universal stories of opinions being so often wrongly reported as facts. Using cleverly written lyrics, Paula speaks out about how this new order is dumbing down society until the distinction between truth and trickery is entirely blurred.
Americana layered on top of a grittier country rock are just a few words to describe Paula's sound. As she surprises with heavier power ballads melting into innocent folk solos, she lures the listener into a false sense of security through which they can simply escape into the music.
Paula Standing combines her writing with that of Emily Smith on this record, both contributing to the final version ahead of the release. One track in particular, Heartaches’ Coming Around draws on lyrics from Lola Brinton after spending time at the Spring DAG Sheep Station Songwriters’ Retreat in Nundle NSW in 2018.
Songwriter and performer, Paula Standing hails originally from North Queensland but now resides in Southern Australia where she spends time perfecting her written craft and building upon her roster of original music.
Stevie Nicks, John Prine, Gillian Welch, Iris Dement and Lucinda Williams are among some of her biggest influences while her impressive vocal range and versatility has often been compared to Linda Ronstadt.
Fully immersed in a sea of music throughout her entire life, it is no surprise that Paula Standing took to songwriting back in 2003. However, it wasn't until around 10 years later that she truly ignited her professional musical career, and she hasn't looked back since. Along the way she has worked tirelessly playing live music at local festivals and open mic's to now releasing her music to major digital platforms.
