Sarah C is one of Australia’s upcoming R&B Soul Diva. While she is no newcomer to the industry, she is finally making a name for herself. Sarah has worked with some of the greats in music, from Kylie Minogue, Jessica Mauboy, Daryl Braithwaite, Tim Campbell, Carrie Bickmore to name just a few and had the exclusive honour of performing for Hollywoods Royalty and Oscar Winners Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon.
Sarah has recently released her debut EP “Fearless” which
debuted at number three on the Australian R&B/Soul Charts.
Her most recent experience was as guest judge on the ‘Top 100” to be aired on the Seven Network later in the year.
I asked Sarah a few questions about her journey.
Q. Thank you Sarah for joining me and having a chat. Firstly, how did you begin as a singer?
My father is a singer and i grew up watching him perform and there was always music in our home so i guess it was my destiny.
Q. Who were your inspirations?
I've always been drawn to Soul and RnB artists such as Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Chaka Kahn, Eryka Badu, Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott to name a few. I literally could go on for days :)
Q. Do you manage yourself?
I have a manager based in the states, who has worked closely with artists such as Janet Jackson, John Mayor and Sting but i have pretty much managed my own career. Its been both rewarding and challenging.
Q. How many years have you been singing for?
15 years professionally
Q. Can you tell me what it was like performing for Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon?
It was quite surreal. An incredible honour to meet them both. They are both
stunning, strong and talented women. Goldie is so warm and bubbly it was an incredible and rare experience; truly inspiring.
Q. Congratulations on being guest judge for the “Top 100”! How did you feel when you were asked to be a guest judge for the show?
I was quite chuffed really. It was so unexpected and out of the blue and thats what i love about my industry never a dull moment and certainly keeps life exciting.
Q. Do you feel that perhaps, finally you are being recognised as an artist in your own right?
Its nice to be given the opportunity to be on a show like this that not only showcases the contestants but also the judges and to have a platform to impart knowledge and experience as an artist who has been actively working in the industry for many years.
Q. Can you tell me what it was like as a judge on the Top 100 and what you did?
Honestly it was so much fun! We got to listen to great talent and give our critiques. It was also wonderful to meet and bond with other great artists.
Q. How did it make you feel when you saw incredible talent on the show?
I was in awe of their courage to stand up there and perform in front of a panel of 100 professional singers and industry people and to be judged. That takes guts!
Q. How do you manage the ups and downs in the music business?
It is not always easy. I try to be grateful and enjoy the good times and try not to let the lows get to
me too much. I think the trick is nourishing your soul with the things you love to do and surrounding yourself with good people who inspire and support you.
Q. Finally, What advice would you give to other artists trying to make it in the music business?
Focus on your craft, work hard, stay positive and humble and never give up! Above all be a nice person no one likes to work with a Diva!
Thank you Sarah for this interview, and for sharing a little bit about you.
I wish you so much luck, and we at Music Talks are cheering you on!
