Kathleen Elle
“Brainwaves”
Is there any logic in love? That’s the question Kathleen Elle asks with her brand new single.
Kathleen lays the case here with a great funk groove and catchy melody, and it’s hard to resist this song’s innate feel good vibe. It’s indie pop at its best, when it’s not trying too hard to compete with the blandness clichés of top 40 pop anthems, and instead goes for a healthy approach and a groovy arrangement.
The production is on point here, with cool percussion that highlight the funky groove and Kathleen’s vocal front and center, dancing above effortlessly. I particularly like the vocal doubling of some guitar melodic parts, something that a George Benson would have approved!
It helps that the flow of the lyrics here is steady and grooving, served with taste and soul, and that the overall production is not trying to bring out the wall of sound that our fatigued ears have been accustomed to with bombastic chorus that workaround their lack of interests with an excruciating peak of squashed dynamics, something that too much music today is finding an adequate trend. Here the music breathes and leaves room for a groove that takes its time to grow and will make you sway without you even noticing.
A great single and song and worth extended listens!
Verdict: 5/5 beards
