Thirty years is a long time. If you don’t think so, provided your parents are still alive, look at them 30 years ago and take at them now.
That thirty-year period is the period that Ken Kunin has been in this crazy music industry. In thirty years, Kunin has released 8 albums and is just about to release his 9th with his band Ken Kunin & the Crooked Sky, except it isn’t exactly an album but a three- part 18 song release that is the soundtrack for a screenplay. Part one of the soundtrack contains the first seven songs will be released Friday February 15th (today) and is called I am the fixer Part1/3 from the screenplay I am the fixer which Kunin created the concept for and co-wrote. All the music on this Three- part album was written and produced by Ken.
This project is without question is the grandest undertaking of Kunin’s artistic career. Creating and producing a screenplay alongside a soundtrack while trying to produce a full-length feature film is something that has made Ken dig deep to fully create the world of a character only known as “The Fixer”. He is a character who collects and restores what people leave for curb side collection and happens to also commit a few hits per year to supplement his income and remove terrible people from society. While Kunin has been sitting on the concept for a few years, it took a few years to form his band Ken Kunin & the Crooked Sky. The aim was to create a band that is not only incredibly skilful in studio confides but have the flexibility to perform the music in a live setting. There is something to be said about having four consummate veteran musicians all of which have 30 or more years touring and recording experience. It takes just that to pull off the sound in Kunin’s head which he has stated was highly under the influence of Pink Floyd meets Townes Van Zandt, meets Badfinger. The end results are highly catchy songs with a touch of psychedelia and a dark junk blues country undertone. As the project is a soundtrack, the songs and their release are chronological in accordance to the screenplay.
Ken Kunin & the Crooked Sky are planning a few tour dates that fit in with their slightly chaotic work commitments and family life. Kunin has the fun of balancing running a 17- year fitness business that pays the bills, hosting On Song International and seeing to it that I am the fixer the film gets produced. That said, the band is extremely proud of its dark and haunting live shows.
