“Pretty People” from the “Burnt Mementos” album
From London, UK, comes a band that shakes the tree of bland modern music, with a new take on funky, fusion jazz and clever song-writing. This first 6 track EP is full of great surprises and memorable songs, not to be missed.
With that first song “Pretty People” the tone is set, with its rich and warm sound and fun lyrics… The dry syncopated guitar groove and guiro starts off well and bass drums are coming to steady the beat, but when the horns section joins in, you know you’re in for a treat!
When Eléa May’s vocal enters, with her sensuous alto and French inflections you can’t help but think of a female fronted Steely Dan, and the rest of the album and arrangements keep that impression growing… Top notch production throughout and a knack for catchy songs, with ironic lyrics that paint stories of our modern world with a fun detachment.
You can’t go wrong with an album that shines of groovy tunes and awesome musicianship, and many a tune is featuring extended guitar and keyboard solos which is a great bonus and is probably great to hear live as well.
Verdict: 5/5 beards - A band and album to discover asap!
