Dr Sinah's Jazz Lobotomy

Who said that Jazz was dead? (actually, Frank Zappa once said that “Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny” but that was just his kind of humour as he actually hired a lot of top Jazz musicians over the years).

Anyway, if you needed proof that Jazz is a living, breathing thing, and very much alive and modern, you wouldn’t need to look much further than this new single from Dr Sinah’s Jazz Lobotomy, a fun band from Australia, with a fresh approach to the genre, mixing elements of acid jazz, hip-hop and pop for a compelling result.

Chinmay Sinha, an artist originally from India, who immigrated to Australia, penned the song and is the lead guitarist on this track. You can hear the Jazz influence in his playing with quite a modern take on harmony. He’s helped here by a band of great musicians who are instilling a great life to this track, with its syncopated rhythm… I particularly like the stops on the bass/drums combo and the way they move forward the groove (the mix enhances that by cutting the drums reverb to give that more impact). It helps of course that the vocal performance, which kinds of float on top of that lush bed of sounds is really top notch, with two female vocalists nicely laying out the unusual melody with their silky voices.

Verdict: 5/5 beards Listen while sipping a Margarita on the beach!
