Sam Carmody: Shadow In The Dream

"Polished and lyrical. I've been trying to lucid dream. If this is the Shadow in the Dream that's great by me." 4.5/5 Stacy Gougoulis, triple j Unearthed

Sam Carmody

Following on from the melodic and wonderfully crafted tracks The Sea Has Risen and Sharks, Sam Carmody is pleased to share Shadow in the Dream, the title track from his stunning debut EP. A propulsive, hook-laden ode to lost love,Shadow in the Dream shimmers with jangly guitars and haunted plaintive vocals, along with Carmody's unadorned lyrics.

Born in Geraldton, drawn to Perth and now based in Darwin, Sam Carmody has been active as a writer across various projects and formats. In 2012 he won a WAM Song of the Year award for his work with Perth four-piece Warning Birds. In 2016 Carmody released his first novel The Windy Season and was shortlisted for the Vogel’s Award - Australia’s most prestigious literary prize for young writers.

In 2017 the novel won the Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction.

Moving forward, Sam’s creative focus lies in his solo musical output and his desire to get back on stage, having just appeared at the Darwin Festival supporting Tia Gostellow.

Recalling the experimental Antipodean pop of Nick Cave, The Go-Betweens and Crowded House, Sam Carmody has enjoyed support far and wide from community radio and triple j, most recently this past week on Home and Hosed, and is sure to keep turning heads across the country.

"As usual your voice is just so full of emotion. This is arresting and moving." Declan Byrne, triple j Unearthed
