Georgia Fearn Is Making a Name For Herself Through Unique Sounds and Lyrics

With a new album out called “Perfect on Paper”, the talented singer / songwriter Georgia Fearn is making a name for herself with her unique sound. Georgia not only sings, but she also plays guitar and piano.

At 17 years old her lyrics show she already seems to comprehend the joy, pain and challenges of life. This understanding is appreciated by her fans, who, can’t wait to see what’s next for Georgia.

Danielle: I read that you incorporate several music styles into your songs, including pop, rock, jazz, hip hop and Celtic folk. How did you decide to go for this unique sound?

Georgia Fearn: I listen to a very eclectic range of music and love all different styles and I think just growing up with all these different sounds has made me want to intertwine them. Each song I write has a character, and the music matches that character’s personality, for example, my track ‘Master Of Jazz’ has a jazz sound as the song is about a jazz musician. The song ‘Misty Mae’ is a rock-folk style as it is about a witch that reincarnates herself. The style matches the theme.

Danielle: When did you start singing? Has your sound changed since you first started?

Georgia Fearn: I started singing when I was very young- first on karaoke games with my cousins and then with my grandmother. It didn’t used to be very good, so I hope it’s changed! I feel my voice has matured a lot, and I feel that came from listening to very powerful female vocalists and imitating them, then finding my own sound.

Danielle: Are you currently performing at any venues? What is your favorite story from a performance? Do you have any upcoming shows?

Georgia Fearn: I perform a lot around Wales, I gig most weekends and in the week if I can balance it around A level work; I also busk if there’s nothing coming up. My favourite performance was in a venue where, completely unexpectedly, the crowd started singing along to all my songs. It really surprised me as I don’t have a huge fanbase at the moment and am still building it up, so to have an audience know my music was really special. This is my dream for the future! As for upcoming gigs, you can always find an updated list of my gigs on my website- www.georgiafearnmusic.co.uk under ‘shows’!

Danielle: You are not only known for your sound, you are also known for your lyrics. What process do you use to come up with your ideas? Has your writing style change since you first started writing?

Georgia Fearn: A lot of my inspiration comes from novels and films or just things that I’ve seen on the news. I love stories and things that go on in people’s lives and the act of storytelling through music is magical to me. My song ‘Sharp Objects’ is based off Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name and explores small towns with rosy exteriors but something lurking underneath. The track ‘Catch Me When You Can’ is about a serial killer that mocks the police for not being able to find him, alluding that he imitates or could actually be Jack The Ripper. I love finding themes that you wouldn’t necessarily find in popular music. My writing style has always been very narrative, but I feel I’ve very much matured in this aspect since I first began writing.

Danielle: You currently have an album out called “Perfect on Paper” on Paper. Can you share with your fans how you came up with the title?

Georgia Fearn: The title is the same as the track ‘Perfect On Paper’ from the album. The song is about a woman on trial for the murder of her husband but denies her guilt. As an audience we get to hear her inner monologue and it’s established that she is guilty but their marriage was toxic. Despite thinking that he was perfect for her as he had all the desirable traits on paper, she discovered that this doesn’t always match to real life. I think this was the best title for the album as the song gives you a really good idea of what me and my music is about and that the album will not be conventional or tell conventional stories.

Danielle Question: Who are your favorite artists who have influenced your love of music?

Georgia Fearn: That’s a really difficult question as I love so many artists. The alt./dark pop queens have to be mentioned- Marina and The Diamonds, Melanie Martinez, Lorde, Billie Eilish, etc. But as well as that I just love and am influenced by any artist who can tell a story. Billy Joel particularly guided me as well as Stevie Wonder, but more contemporary artists like Panic! At The Disco and Frank Ocean have also had an impact on me musically.

Danielle: What can your fans expect next? Is there anything else you would like to share with your fans?

Georgia Fearn: At the moment I’m promoting ‘Perfect On Paper’ and gigging as much as I can. When I’m done with that there may be an EP or second album on the way, but this will definitely take time as I want to put my all into it. Any news can be found on my twitter (@GgFearnMusic), and I want my fans to know that they’re amazing and they’re the ones who are making all of this possible. I’d like to thank them all for supporting me and making me so happy.
