It’s been such a great start to 2018 for Country Rock artist Casey Barnes. He’s a 2018 Golden Guitar Awards finalist, plays alongside great acts such as Brothers Osbourne, Luke Bryan, Kelsea Ballerini and Dan & Shay and when you throw in his upcoming appearance at the Gympie Muster, you know Casey is one artist you don’t want to overlook!
Can you briefly introduce yourself to the readers of Music Talks? Just a little bit on who you are, where you are from, what kind of music you do… etc.
Hey guys.. I’m Casey Barnes and am an independent country/rock artist based on the Gold Coast.
What was the inspiration behind the song ‘Be Mine'?
‘Be Mine’ is a track I co-wrote and recorded with both Michael Paynter and Michael DeLorenzis in Melbourne. The song is all about a girl who in the past has always been screwed around and treated poorly by guys. She finally meets a guy who promises he’s the ‘real deal’ and in for the long haul and he’s trying to convince her to trust again
The Gympie Muster is coming up, is this your first time there? What can the crowd expect from your show? How did you feel when you were told you'd be playing this year?
This year will be our second year running playing at the Gympie Muster and we can’t wait! It’s THE most unique music festival in Australia (we think) and its just such a great weekend. We’ll be putting on a rocking show on Muster Sunday playing all the tracks off the new album ‘The Good Life
Do you have any interesting / weird / funny rituals before going on stage that we should know about?
Ha ha well we do but you need to have a sense of humour. On the whole we’re not an overly religious band and we tend to play a trick on any new band members or players joining us on stage for the night… we normally get everyone in a circle and ask the new band member to lead a ‘prayer’ before going on stage. Gets them every time!
Tell us about the Bull Riding and your involvement! What is that all about? What is it like being part of that community?
Well the PBR invited me along to sing at their event this time last year at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre which was an amazing experience and shortly after locked me in for the entire 2018 tour so it’s been a blast! My style of Country/Rock and Bull Riding seem to work well and they get some great crowds so I’ve been very fortunate to be part of the PBR family over the last 12 months
What 3 things keep you sane while on the road?
Number 1 – COFFEE ha. 2 - Knowing my girls (family) are just a phone call away and 3 - normally I’m not on the road for longer than a few days at a time.
What is next for you? Anything cool to announce or news to share?
I guess we’ll be promoting the new album/single for the rest of this year. We’ve got tour dates booked all the way thru to December so that’ll keep me busy! And keep your eye out for one more new single before the year’s out… looking at a release towards the end of September!
