Following one of the most notable debut releases this year featuring superstar Laura Mvula and rapper Jay Prince on ‘Elijah’ and hard-hitting follow-up ‘Hard Times’, House of El (the moniker of Kieron McIntosh) comes through with an emotive, powerful new statement with COLOURBLIND.
A gorgeous, stripped-back piano instrumental forms the foundations for a confessional, glorious vocal performance – as COLOURBLIND builds to the kind of chorus that feels like it could fill stadiums already. Relevant comparisons will be made to the likes of Michael Kiwanuka and Sampha, such is the lyrical integrity and melodic prowess that’s on show here, a taster of his forthcoming debut EP.
Speaking on the track, House of El states: “Colourblind is a song about the feeling of missing out on love, the feeling you get when you the world turns grey without it. Love is the most important thing…we all need it, decided to get I’m my feels on this one.”
Mentioning a diverse spectrum of muses that spans the likes of Massive Attack, Gorillaz and Joy Division to Neil Young and Stevie Wonder, it’s the vulnerable fragility that’s evident on ‘Colourblind’ that continues to underline House of El’s standing as one of the most textured, thoughtful artists coming out of the city right now.
