“We’re All Alone Together” from the “Silent Film” EP

Alternative rock? Now that’s a genre that doesn’t mean much if you think about it. Alternative to what? Alternative to whom? Isn’t rock supposed to be alternative anyway? Who knows? But under that very generic label you can find everything from bad to awful to good to awesome. Fortunately, “with Bravado”, a band from Memphis, Tennessee, is of the awesome kind. And their new EP is a clear step up from their previous self-produced debut EP.

They rock pretty hard on this one, and you will hear it on that feature song that is also the first video from the EP. Starting with a distorted bass line before the guitars double it and the drums starts pounding, you know you’re into heavy territory right away. With an anthem of a chorus that wouldn’t pale alongside the best of Nirvana and other grunge bands, they still manage to have an original sound, thanks to Julian and Kayla’s blended voices and their influences that range from punk to hard rock to grunge to pop. On this song in particular, the guitar harmonies go beyond the grunge/punk ethos and introduce a melodious streak that is perceptible on the whole album.

If you like it rocking, with a pop sensibility behind the distorted guitars, you will be well served with the EP.

Verdict: 5/5 beards
