Katie Ellen; "I found it difficult to capture the emotional intensity of the song"

The eagerly anticipated follow up to her critically acclaimed, debut EP, 'Three Little Words', UK based singer songwriter Katie Ellen's elegantly simple piano ballad, 'Yours', is a strikingly honest testament to devotion.

Andrew: Can you briefly introduce yourself to the readers of Music Talks?

Katie: I’m a singer/songwriter from Liverpool, UK. I have a variety of influences from Country to soul. My latest writing is mostly inspired by piano ballads with a hint of soul.

Andrew: What was the inspiration behind the song ‘Yours’?

Katie: I first came up with the idea for ‘Yours’ from the chord progression used in the chorus. It sounded intense and emotional so I knew the lyrics had to match. So the idea for belonging to someone and not being able to leave became the story I worked with.

Andrew: When doing the live performance for ‘Yours’, a) what was the toughest thing about the experience? b) what was the bit you found the easiest, or enjoyed the most? Katie: I found it difficult to capture the emotional intensity of the song. I didn’t have the harmonies so I tried to push a bit harder to create the emotion. I love performing so I feel at home playing piano and singing by myself.

Andrew: What 3 things keep you sane while on the road?

Katie: Coffee ,A good book, A notebook to write songs

Andrew: Do you have any interesting / weird / funny rituals before going on stage that we should know about?

Katie: Nothing springs to mind but I do like to take a lot of time getting ready.

Andrew: What is next for you? Anything cool to announce or news to share?

Katie: I can tell you exclusively that I will be playing a set at Liverpool's biggest folk music festival Folk On The Dock in August! More info coming soon!
