Piqued Jacks | Wildy Shine

Wildly Piqued EP

What if we could turn a person's soul into a song? It sounds impossible, but we tried anyway.

“Wildly Shine” is meant to embody the soul of our friend Hannah, an incredibly kind and positive girl who hosted us in Beaumont, TX, while we were touring the US in 2015. It was just for a day, but we connected so well that we promised we'd meet again in Italy. Sadly, two weeks later, Hannah was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver.

Shocked by the news, E-King sat at the piano, and a melody started flowing naturally; a bunch of words followed it, then the whole band joined in. But we wanted the song to be really special, so we entrusted Grammy Nominated producer Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, RHCP) with the pre- production process, who helped us taking the music and the lyrics to the level that Hannah deserved.

Self-engineered and produced, recorded and re-arranged a thousand times, started by our former drummer ThEd0g and finished by the current one, Holy Hargot, “Wildly Shine” - out of all our songs – struggled the most to come to life.

But now we can proudly address it as our most powerful ballad.

Song description

Wildly Shine is a delicate song about a dramatic event: a slow ballad that evolves into a forceful ending, where the mourning of a sudden loss turns into the celebration of a meaningful person. A song about the ability to let someone go like a feather to the wind, to treasure someone's soul forever. When so much is given, the bond never breaks, but rather compounds with each element (“the wood I burn / those blue singing birds / the dew the Gods drink / the bloom of growing trees”), with every thing on earth.

Wildly Shine is one last dance to say goodbye to a loved one, an emotional vibe with both smooth and rough vocals, and a dreamy atmosphere all around. It is meant to represent the eternity of the impact that a person could have on others. A homage to a friend the band met on the road, who struck them as a person who would have definitely made the world a more beautiful place.

The Piqued Jacks are a band of brothers who grew up together in the countryside of Buggiano, near Florence, Italy. With tenacity, riveting concerts, and a unique style of alt/funk-rock music, they made their way to Rome, Milan, London, Glasgow, Austin, and Los Angeles. On one of their early days, they broke and bent an audio jack; the double meaning of its upward angle was easy to see for the four young boys. “Piqued” means “interested”, but also stands for direct, spontaneous, visceral.

Their new single, “Wildly Shine,” was pre-produced by Michael Beinhorn (RCHP, Soundgarden). The new album (Summer 2018 release) was produced by Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Young Guns) in an 18th c. country home, transformed for the occasion into a recording studio/communal living space, completely immersed in their sounds, surrounded by nature and chemistry of human creativity.
