Georgia Fearn | L'amour

Georgia Fearn

“L’amour” from the “Perfect on Paper” album

Georgia Fearn Single Cover

It’s pretty rare nowadays to find such a young singer songwriter daring to experiment with different styles from one song to the next, all on the same debut album.

Georgia Fearn is only 17 and yet her debut album is chock full of surprises, starting with the opening song/single “L’amour” which features an eclectic melange of acoustic and electronic instruments. Starting with an electronic beat highlighting an accordion motif, a banjo and some various electronic sound effects, this one sets the mood, especially when Georgia starts telling her story, with spoken words nonetheless.

It’s a story of addiction, and cigarettes are the least lethal object of it, apparently. I can’t help but chuckle at the pronunciation of the French in: “I’m high sur l’amour”, but it’s charming anyway!

Served by great performances, recording and production from seasoned players and producers, this simple song is elevated to an anthem, and it really makes you want to hear more… And then fortunately, the 12 tracks album delivers as it goes from alternative rock, to pop, to folk, flirts with jazz and even a stadium rock kind of sound with “Sharp Objects”. There’s plenty to chew in this meaty first album and I highly recommend the listen!

Verdict: 5/5 beards
