Nakatomi

Nakatomi launch May 25; new single 'Jaguar'; EP out today!

"Feels like Valerie Dore, The Knife and Savage wrapped up in a bundle”, Linda Margliano, triple j Following on from last year's euphoric taster track Wooden Castle, Adelaide duo Nakatomi have reached a new pinnacle with their outstanding self-titled EP, driven by new single Jaguar.

Amassing an ever-growing fanbase for their stellar songs and high energy live show, Nakatomi have emerged as Australia's most exciting future-pop duo – earning their place as one of the premier acts in a talent-rich city.

Featuring the fully-charged vocals of Em Smart, Nakatomi craftily blend modern dance with retro synths, creating a huge hook-laden sound that is equal parts progressive and nostalgic. As they seamlessly espouse '80s nu wave with '90s grunge (with a liberal helping of modern electro pop) Smart and musical partner Hamish Cox prove themselves to be outstanding songwriters and producers. Nominated as ‘Best New Artist’ (2016) and 'Most Popular Electronic Artist' (2017) at the SA Music Awards, Nakatomi have clearly made an impression on their hometown.

Writing lush and vibrant genre-hopping songs, the duo have already been met with airplay on triple j, rotation on triple j Unearthed and community stations around Australia, have been featured in Fresh FM’s Hot 92, and were Rolling Stone’s Pick of the Week.

Having torn the roof off every type of venue imaginable (from intimate house parties to, art galleries, to sold-out festivals) Nakatomi understand how to create and focus a larger-than-life energy. Enlisting producer/drummer Mario Spate as part of their live show, the trio perform with a stadium-sized vivacity, and in just a few short years have become a key part of the Adelaide Electro scene. Teaming up with an impressive production ensemble of JP Fung (Silverchair, Last Dinosaurs), Tony Buchen (Montaigne, Asta, East) and Mario Spate (Tkay Maidza, Mane), Nakatomi have outdone themselves in capturing the excitement of their live show in the studio. From start to finish, the EP is a glorious testament to the duo's chemistry and the exceptional songwriting it is fuelling.

After a string of singles, Nakatomi are excited to honour this new chapter in their career and will launch their debut EP at Ancient World on Friday, May 25 (supported by Melbourne songstress Nussy) before returning their focus to further national touring.
