Following on from the melodic and wonderfully crafted debut track The Sea Has Risen, Sam Carmody is pleased to share his evocative new single Sharks. A distinctly contemporary song about love circled by masculine darkness, buried histories, global conflict and a rising sea, it also serves as a taste of Sam's forthcoming EP due out mid-year. Born in Geraldton, drawn to Perth and now based in Darwin, Sam Carmody has been active as a writer across various projects and formats.
In 2012 he won a WAM Song of the Year award for his work with Perth four-piece Warning Birds.
In 2016 Carmody released his first novel The Windy Season and was shortlisted for the Vogel’s Award - Australia’s most prestigious literary prize for young writers.
In 2017 the novel won the Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction - moving forward, Sam’s creative focus lies in his solo musical output and his desire to get back on stage. Recalling the experimental Antipodean pop of Nick Cave, The Go-Betweens and Crowded House, Carmody's EP material is currently being self-produced along with The Money War's Dylan Ollivierre and former Warning Birds bandmate Bensen Thomas. In support of the release of Sharks, Carmody will be performing at the Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival in Darwin on May 12 before returning his focus to completing the EP and announcing tour dates. “The arrival of a powerful new Australian voice.” Corrine Hent, The Courier Mail “A stunning aptitude for lo-fi, summer burners with vocal hooks for days.” Happy Mag
