Hey we’re Quaint Attraction, a 4-piece alternative rock group out of Adelaide. We all listen to a huge range of music from progressive metal through to acoustic and spoken word, so our choice of music tends to be pretty broad, but at the end of the day what we love most is throwing a huge party and playing a live show.
As a band Quaint Attraction has been playing on the local Adelaide scene for years now. People usually don’t believe us when we say that the whole thing started with an ad on Gumtree, but ultimately that’s what brought our first jam together. The line-up has changed a few times over the years, but again it has often been Gumtree that has saved us and found us new members. It’s funny how these things happen sometimes too, Matt was once our bassist, left the band, and ended up returning later as a lead guitarist. We still don’t know if he is crazy for coming back, but there has been a lot of excellent banter so we can’t really complain.
Speaking of Matt re-joining the band, we’re in an exciting phase at the moment where we are getting ready to release our first new music as a 4-piece. Adding in his skills on six strings has really added a new depth to what we do, and you can definitely feel a funky Chili Peppers vibe coming through in a lot of his lead licks. We’ve written a few new songs in this configuration and it’s definitely exciting seeing where it is all going. We’ll work on recording a bunch more throughout 2018 to share with the world, continuing to develop our skills and sound as we go.
Our next track is called “Control That I Can’t Find”, and it’s quite a personal number. It draws on Damo’s experiences living interstate for the last two years, and the stress that puts on one’s sense of purpose and life direction. There’s a certain energy and angst that comes with that, but also a sense of uncertainty that holds everything back. As a song it carries on from some of the high energy tunes we put out on our debut EP, but also adds some depth, class and refinement that we’re quite happy about. We definitely aim to keep building on that as we record more, we do all of our own recording in a home studio so it’s a great opportunity to continue to develop those skills.
But what comes after the big single release? Definitely more music on the way, it’s just a matter of picking which ones to record next!
We’ve got some exciting 2018 shows lined up as well, and we’ve been talking about what else we can do to get our tunes out to the world. We went on tour to the east coast last year and had such a ball, so we’re definitely keen to hit the road again sometime soon. We’ve got a few ideas about where to go, but people will have to wait and find out!
