After almost a year since his first Gold Record for his single Perdona Corazón, Ramy Falcón has been busy touring, promoting new singles and giving the finishing touches to his new album “Dónde Estás Amor?” which is being released digitally worldwide on Friday, April 20th.
We caught up with him in his Havanna SP Records offices and talked about this and other projects.
-Ramy, its been almost a year since we last had a chat. What have you been up to?
Its been a hectic last few months. After the success of “Perdona Corazón” Ive released two more singles “Como Antes” and “Yo soy tu dueño” which climbed very quickly to number 2 and number 1 respectively in the Cuban charts and remained put for many weeks. Between these two releases, touring heavily and finishing my album time has flown by!
-Tell us about “Dónde Estás Amor?”
“Dónde Estás Amor?” in English “Where are you love?” Is my first studio album. It has been written and produced completely by me and recorded and executive produced by my manager in our record label in Cuba: SP Records.
It has been a long journey to finish this album in more ways than one. Just the fact of writing and producing an album is an immense amount of work plus we had the bad luck of joining forces with a well known Cuban producer who turned out to be very shady and incompetent and stifled us for large amounts of money during the recording of our first single. After this experience my manager Paul Seaquist decided that we were going to produce and executive produce the whole album ourselves.
Nevertheless after months of hard work, of beautiful work we finally have the product in our hands and we are very proud of it! We are happy we did it on our own terms!
-What sound have you looked for in the album?
It is a very latin album! I am latin and I stick to my guns! It is mainly a romantic album as the title infers, therefore it has a good number of ballads but also more up-beat latin songs; I am very fond of the work of Carlos Vives therefore the single “Dónde Estás Amor?” is a very Vives production, I think people will love it! We are already producing a first video for this song with a lot of Cuban vibe! We are always experimenting a lot with latin pop and have a few popish songs in the album as well! It’s a well balance work.
-What are the next steps in your career Ramy?
The album comes out during the last days of April and I begin promoting it with press, and a Cuban tour which will take me to most cities of the island. We are also entering the Mexican and Chilean markets strongly so Paul is preparing dates in Mexico and Chile as well!
We are also going back into the studio during next week to record a new single “Ya nada queda”. The muti platinum and multi gold, three time Grammy nominee and brainchild of the super band Kudai Gustavo Pinochet is working on a new record with me. To be released soon!
