The Broken Bones | In Their Own Time

For most other bands releasing tracks is fairly straightforward process. Get in a room, throw some ideas around, record it, production and…...done. Not so The Broken Bones, who tend to do things in a interestingly more difficult manner.

The Broken Bones should have released their debut album by now, after all, the recording started over twelve months ago. However in that time the band has experienced numerous motorcycle accidents, a bass player living interstate while making frequent trips to Asian bike tracks, a drummer breaking arms and shoulders whilst exploring the great outdoors and a guitarist that frequently contemplates putting his guitar through a wall before getting back on the horse.

In fact, at the time of writing Andrew “Robbo” Robinson, is still in hospital after finding a semi-trailer on his side of the road rounding a mountain corner riding a KTM Super Duke GT of which he was reviewing for bikesales.com.au. I guess when three members of the band ride bikes and the fourth flies planes (no, no, just the little ones) you probably expect a little misadventure. Luckily, we are all still in one piece, well Robbo will be soon, and the band's name The Broken Bones was seemed to be more than apt!

Under a different moniker the band has been together for over two years and in that time have written swag of hard hitting rock tracks with euphemistic lyrics. When your main songwriter has experienced everything from beating drug addiction to witnessing the 45th President rule the free world, there is no shortage of inspiration.

“The song ‘Blue’ is a great example of writing about something that is as black as drug addiction, while substituting a few ambiguous words and adding a thumping Knucklehead engine to it”, main songwriter Scott Morgan explains. “There would be a few that would understand the subject matter for sure, but the majority will assign their own meaning to it. Which is exactly what the subjective nature of music and art for that matter, is all about. Isn’t it?”.

So, twelve months on the album is almost there and luckily the band has been able to start releasing tracks and will continue to do so throughout the first half of 2018, with the album due for release in the September 2018.

“It will be a huge relief to get this music out there. It has been so long in coming that in a funny way it is reassuring to understand that we all are in it for the long haul’, Robbo laughs down the phone. “You know, we aren’t spring chickens anymore and to have been in this game for a while you understand how fickle the life of a band can be. So two years on, without even getting into first gear and again due to nothing other than bad luck, it will be huge to release the album.”

So after erratic studio sessions, a couple of band names, one pretty effing scary motorcycle stack and ultimately surrendering to the universes own timeline, The Broken Bones are ready to shift into second gear.

“Blue” / “Bitter” is now available in all online stores and streaming services. The Broken Bones debut album “Sway” is due for release mid 2018.
