Neil and Adam

Oil Fire

Neil and Adam

If there’s one thing about pop music, it is that melodies and hooks are king! And it is obvious that Neil and Adam have mastered the art form as is demonstrated by their latest “Oil Fire” single.

These two seasoned musicians have a knack for memorable melodies and cool production, and this song is no exception. Right from the start you are hooked (see what I did here?) by Neil’s wahoo ooh wahoo while a tastily compressed acoustic panned way left is punctuated by a clever bass line while the kick is building up. Then Neil’s vocal is entering the stage to sing this tale of love and jealousy, and his characteristic vocal timbre is a feature of the duo, making them instantly recognisable.

The production is spot on from start to finish, I especially like that each turn of a verse introduces something different making it a pleasure to listen. To note the big background vocals during the chorus, which are really creating the needed contrast and pushing this track forward. But even little tricks like the reverb on the snare on the first hit of the second verse, the tambourine introduced after the drop on the third verse and these Yo Yo are welcome and provide these little surprises that make a great track.

Well done guys! We can hear that this one was extremely well thought out and tastily executed. A winner of a song!
