Classic Rock! That’s what this one is really about! Think Eagles, Led Zeppelin, early 70s Rolling Stones. This single is all of the above, but with a modern twist.
It could have been done in the seventies because it has that looseness and feel that makes you put on repeat and singalong. Starts simple with strumming a tasty doubling on acoustic, and Joy’s powerful voice goes straight into the heart of the story, which is about love, but about needing and wanting some time before diving into a new relationship. A classic tale for a classic tune, but so well done in its engaging warmth that it’s a real special treat.
To be noted the production, which is warm and big, with a wall of many guitars, acoustic, power chords, slide, you name it, comforting bass and big drums, tight and to the point. Great counterpoint with arpeggiated by some keys/12-string/mandolin(?) kind of sound during the chorus… But the real cream on top is Joy’s voice who is killing it on this tune. This is not your average sweet whispering angel voice, but rather a deep and powerful voice that grabs you by the guts, the way Janis Joplin used to do. There’s blues and rock and rye in that voice, and when she hits these high notes in the final chorus you know she’s not joking, you better give her a little more time! This ends as it started with the gentle acoustic and electric doubling and this means it’s time for you to hit that repeat button!
Verdict: 5/5 beards
