Simone & Girlfunkle | Gary Song

Simone & Girlfunkle

Following on from this year's taster track 'Fight On', North-Perth avant-folk darlings Simone & Girlfunkle are pleased to share their summery new single 'Gary Song'. In celebration of the release, the band will be taking to stages across Perth and Margaret River this month while also showcasing new material from their forthcoming album due out in 2018.

In her ever-so poetic and enthusiastic demeanour, vocalist Bridget Turner says of the new track "Gary Song is inspired by the upbeat-meets-melancholy vibe of bands like Alvvays. It’s an ode to our dead best friends – our pets specifically, one very loving and loved, yet guitar-phobic feline: Gary."

Live, as on record, Simone & Girlfunkle are simply mesmerising.

Pitch perfect three-part female harmonies deployed in service of a broad but uniformly gorgeous, joyous repertoire that runs the gamut from sparse acoustic folk to euphoric cacophony.

Their deserving reputation has resulted in slots alongside some of Australia's finest including Holly Throsby, Dr G Yunupingu, Wendy Matthews and All Our Exes Live in Texas, while notching up performances at Southbound, St. Kilda Festival, State of the Art, Nannup Music Festival, Port City Folk Festival, Channel Nine's The Weekend Today Show and Fairbridge Folk Festival where "...the girls' flawless harmonies were a force to be reckoned with." (Lukas Murphy, themusic.com.au).

The guitar-driven Gary Song with its reverb washed vocals sashays the listener the listener through the ups and downs of heartbreaking loss: reflected through the joyful verses, loving choruses and melancholic bridge. You’ll be dreamy-eyed by the end, longing for more – like any fleeting moment spent with your own confidants.
