Hannah Clive | Kiss Of Life

Kiss Of Life

Hanna Clive

‘A little warmth is all I needed, and your kiss of life” she sings. Well, this one sure has more than a little warmth… In fact, it’s hot as hell!

This all starts nice and smooth, with cool acoustic guitar arpeggios and delicious little pizzicato to counterpoint and that bass which is holding the ground solid, then Hannah’s voice is welcoming you to the first verse, and boy! does she hold you in the palm of her hand after that! Hannah has a very distinctive and original voice, kind of a cross of soul and country and rock, as if Dolly Parton had a child with Marvin Gaye and the result was the new Janis Joplin. The melody is catchy but it is the inflections that Hannah uses that makes the track, really. It’s sexy when needed but angry at times too, which goes so very well with the theme of the song, which is love, frustration and rage altogether.

The track builds and builds and the guitar gets angry, power chords and tasty Les Paul solo are bringing the anger and frustration that Hannah is highlighting with soulful harmonies, yeah, yeah, yeah, wow, wow, wow! The production is spot on. And that drop after the solo is so damn well done, with the “a little love” background vocals hook, and then the track gets back in full swing. That’s dynamics, baby!

And then the song fades out to a perfect end, with the repeat of that “little love” hook, before it gets to a halt. Powerful song, well constructed, and so well performed!

Verdict: 5/5 beards
