The Jason McIver Collective (or The JMC) is a song writing project headed by vocalist/guitarist/song writer Jason McIver.
After playing in metal and hard rock bands for many years around New Zealand the softer side of my musical interests finally came to fruition in the winter of 2014, a quickly put together acoustic set on a local internet music show called Soundtree Live. I was writing acoustic/folk rock, influenced by the likes of Alice In Chains & Nirvana Unplugged but hadn't gigged most of it. After the break up of my heavy rock band Heathen Eyes I decided I would try a crowd funding campaign to record a solo E.P and asked some of my good friends to come in and contribute, this eventually came out as The Big Blue, a 6 track E.P which charted in the Independent Music Charts Top 20 for 4 weeks.
After playing around the country in The JMC there was a hiatus while I concentrated on the metal band I front, called 'Primacy', we have been gigging and recording new music and it left time to write the new JMC album which is titled "I May No Perf".
We have released 1 track as a single so far called 'Stoney Joe', which to be honest was a bit of a laugh and was written while recording the album as we needed 1 more song and kind of left things a little late, it's fun and up beat, adding some bounce and summer time to the tracks.
'I May No Perf' is a collection of different styles... folk/pop/blues/jazz ...a flavour fiesta ;)
The JMC is a 5 piece live band with Matt Hill on lead guitar/backing vocals, Will Bloodfarm on drums, Jesse Reeves on bass, John Boone on percussion/djembe and myself on vocals and acoustic guitar. We live in 3 different parts of NZ, Auckland, Taupo and Wellington so getting together isn't always the easiest of things but before we gig we always get together, reconnect and really get into the spirit of the music and vibe we like to put across in our live shows.
The new album will be released in April through Southern Collective Music on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify.
